Islam Makhachev just retaliated to the comment by Max Holloway about his hiatus. He came into X and wrote a comment on his capabilities comparing it to Holloway and Justin Gaethje. The UFC lightweight champion is critical of the former featherweight champion’s accusation that Makhachev does not fight often. Makhachev rejected a fight with Dustin Poirier because, to him, it did not make sense. Makhachev has not fought since October which was with Volkanovski.

However, Makhachev used numbers and stats to counteract Holloway’s criticism against him. He also compared the number of fights he did in 2021 to the number that Garthje and Holloway have done in the past.

Islam Makhachev decides to set the facts straight

He commented on X and wrote, “For the record: since 2021 I fought 7 times, while Holloway did 5 fights and Justin just 4. Do your homework before talking trash about your champ J.” Justin Gaethje is set to face Holloway in UFC 300 and both seem to be prepared for the octagon face-off.

During the press tour, Gaethje spoke about the BMF fights and his opponent Islam Makhachev. Nevertheless, UFC decided to host two events in Abu Dhabi this year and Gaethje does not prefer to fight Makhachev in Abu Dhabi. He did not want to fight the Russian fighter in October because he had a fight set up during that time. Even Holloway slandered Makachev for missing the fight in February with The Highlight.

Makhachev’s main target is Dustin Poirier right now because ‘The Diamond’ just came off the knockout of Benoît Saint-Denis. Not only did Holloway trigger Makhachev but Poirier also gave him a heads up before their fight.

Poirier warns Makhachev of Guillotine

In a recent interview Makhachev mentioned that he wanted to fight Poirier because other fighters were booked. The 32 year old already received backlash from Holloway for rejecting the fight with Justin in February. Now he got criticised by Poirier for being insulting towards him.

‘The Diamond’ posted a GIF of an actual guillotine on X aka Twitter and tagged Makhachev. He wrote, “To The Guillotine!!!”  Poirier also thinks that Holloway might be the next champion so it seems that he is as lethal on the octagon as he is outside it.

Both Poirier and Makhachev have a different fighting style but Makhachev is one of the most dominant fighters in UFC. Who do you think might win the fight between them if it ever happens?
