The co-main event of UFC 299 between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis ended up becoming one of the best, if not the best fights of the entire event. Despite it lasting just two rounds, the fight didn’t seem to have a second of a dull moment. Their fight even got acknowledged as the fight of the night.

The back and forth between Dustin Poirier and “BSD” left many on the edge of their seats but eventually led to “The Diamond” being hard enough to take the shots coming his way and cracking his opponent with a nasty right hook to finish the job. However, a former UFC middleweight champ thinks that the fight could’ve gone in the way of the Frenchmen if he played his cards right.

Michael Bisping, in one of his recent YouTube videos, reacted to the fight between the former interim champion and the upcoming lightweight prospect. However, “The Count” gave his veteran eye’s view on the UFC 299’s fight of the night. He explained how the Frenchman dominated most of the fight, but ended up losing due to his carelessness.

Bisping said, “When you’re pushing the pace and when you’re being aggressive, you still got to be defensively sound. That’s where Benoit Saint-Denis went wrong. He forgot about the defense. He was too focused on being a killer, was too focused on finishing the fight. ( Benoit Saint-Denis) forgot to defend himself even when he was going for the double-leg takedown. Remember, Dustin Poirier went for the guillotine, not once, twice, three times about five six times he went for it.”

Dustin Poirier has shown time and time again why he is one of the most decorated fighters in the lightweight division. And now his impressive finish against “BSD” has landed him in a favorable spot in the division with a possible title fight on the horizon.

Dustin Poirier next for the UFC lightweight title?

Dustin Poirier’s beautiful KO of Benoit Saint-Denis has made him the talk of the lightweight division. Leading up to Poirier’s fight against BSD, Makhachev’s manager seemed to ask “The Diamond” if he was down to fight Makhachev in June. With Poirier winning the fight, it seems likely that the title bout is on the cards.

In Abdelaziz’s tweet, he wrote, “Dustin Poirier took a huge risk tonight and came out on top and looked amazing. Dustin vs Islam Makhachev in June especially since everyone else has fights. If the UFC is good with this then Islam would be game.”
