Dana White might just have one of his favorite fighters in Conor McGregor. Everyone knows ‘The Notorious’ brought the UFC fame, perhaps, like no one else. Now, is he so loved by the UFC head honcho that he would introduce a whole new weight class to facilitate his return?

It’s an interesting question. And rumor has it, there is an interesting answer ready and waiting, too. Everyone also knows now that White wanted to blow everyone’s minds with his UFC 300 main event announcement. Here’s what could happen now, as per the latest scuttlebutt.

Conor McGregor and his famed return; another ‘what if?’

The ‘what if’ questions surrounding McGregor’s return keep increasing. What if he doesn’t actually come back against Michael Chandler? What if all the teasing is just in vain? What if Dana White goes as far as removing the 170-pound division? The last one is a question just as genuine as the first two. Why?

Rumor has it that White is considering it. He just might introduce two new weight classes at around 165 and 175 lbs for UFC 300. A pay-per-view of this scale is the perfect opportunity to do something brand new and revolutionary. Dana White is certainly audacious enough to try and pull off something like this.

McGregor himself had announced that he’d be making a return at middleweight instead. Of course, White had nothing to say about it until very recently when he answered the question with a resounding “no.” Maybe we’ll find out more about his real return in the days to come.

Perhaps it could also bring together a brand-new title. McGregor has already won the featherweight and the lightweight titles. Being a three-divisional champ is potentially the only goal that seems significant for his grand return because, apart from that, the Irishman has everything a fighter could ask for. But are the rumors anywhere close to the truth?

Will a new weight class at 165lbs really come by?

Previously, fighters such as Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier have rooted for establishing a 165 lbs division. In 2018, just as the two met in the cage for UFC 230, they asked the UFC to consider perhaps adding the division. What did the head honcho say to that?

“It’s all crock of sh*t,” Dana White told BT Sport quite clearly. “The whole 165 thing is bullsh*t. It’s something they’ve talked about. It’s nothing we’ve talked about. It’s not going to happen.” And now that the rumors have broken out again, Chael Sonnen, the veteran, responded to a fan asking him about it with a strong and loud “Hell no.” So, will it really happen? Let the fans be the judge.
