UFC Pros React to Heartrending Frankie Edgar Retirement News

UFC 281 is bringing in many blockbuster fights. It will also be the last UFC event in which Frankie ‘Rocky’ Edgar will take part. He declared his retirement and announced the fight against Chris Gutierrez. It is almost poetic that his last fight will take place in his hometown of New York. Fighters across all weight classes took this opportunity to pay homage to one of the greats in the promotion.

Many fighters took upon the opportunity to share a few kind words and pay respect to former UFC Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar.

Rocky final fight predictions

Former UFC lightweight champion ‘The Answer’ will enter the Octagon for the final time at UFC 281. He will face Chris Gutierrez, who is looking in the shape of his life hitting his prime.

Edgar will enter the Octagon as an underdog with +210 odds. He has similar striking prowess to Gutierrez, with the latter edging him over with 58% striking accuracy. Rocky has a takedown advantage with a 2.3 average takedown in fights in comparison to 0.44 of El Guapo. Edgar’s strengths are his cardio and conservative game plan.

Frankie Edgar: Greatest UFC moments

Edgar has had a lot of success inside the octagon. Lifting the Lightweight title at UFC 112 against another UFC great BJ Penn. Apart from lifting the title, he faced the former UFC Lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira, back in 2013, defeating him with a unanimous decision after 3 rounds.

His most notable fight inside the Octagon was his 2nd fight against BJ Penn. His first fight saw him lift the title, causing an upset over the champion, Penn. Penn had entered the records book with 11 title defenses and was the favorite. The rematch served as a confirmation of Edgar’s talent as he hailed victorious with a 50-45 unanimous score.
