UFC Star Recalls Panic Moments in Hospital After Getting a Cut Artery on His Head: “They Told Me I Lost 20% of My Blood…”

Rafa Garcia has won over millions of souls with his show of brave heart during his win over Hayisaer Maheshate. What astonished the fans is the fashion in which he got his victory. UFC is famous for its cruel and gruesome fights. In addition, the fights are raw in nature, to say the least, while extreme injuries are a part and parcel of the business. Although there have been many instances of such occurrences in the promotion, the most recent one goes to ‘Gifted’. Moreover, after winning the battle inside the octagon and losing a huge amount of blood, he shared an inspiring message with his fans.

UFC Vegas 66 quickly became viral due to a heroic tale of Rafa Garcia. He won his fight against Hayisaer Maheshate with great vigor. In addition, during the second round of the fight, ‘Gifted’ was hit with a drilling elbow. Not only did this injury give him a deep wound; but also led to a lot of blood loss.

In the UFC post-fight show, he mentioned, “They told me I lost 20 percent of my blood,” He further added, saying, “I got a cut artery. They told me they had never seen that before.

This was just his sixth fight for the promotion, and with the performance, he had made sure to grab the headlines. Moreover, he was in need of almost 15 stitches after his fight, and the medical team took two hours to stop the bleeding.

Although Garcia had to endure an extremely serious injury to his head during the fight, he went to complete and win the battle. Post-fight, the medical made sure that he was taken care of.

Furthermore, after his fight, he made his opinion public. He let his fans know that he wasn’t going to stay down and fight his way toward victory. He said, “PS, The cut they gave me was from an elbow to the side of the head. We are perfectly healthy, The cut severed an artery which caused me to lose 20% of my blood. But that didn’t stop us. you want it then you get it. Above Chicali and the Imperial Valley.”

In addition, his coach Cub Swanson also gave props to the UFC medical team for patching up the wounded warrior. 

Gruesome injuries UFC fighters fought through to clinch victory

This isn’t the only instance when a fighter has channeled his inner warrior to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat. Ben Rothwell tore his ACL against Gilbert Yvel in the first take-down attempt. Instead of giving up as any other fighter would; he went to fight for all three rounds and won with a unanimous decision.

Another instance was when GSP fought against Jake Shields blind-eyed. At UFC 129, Jake Shields poked Georges St-Pierre square in the eye. Despite being nearly blind in one eye, the reigning champion managed to grind out a decision to victory.

Furthermore, Demetrious Johnson fought with a broken Fibula for almost 2 rounds and out-wrestled Torres to pick up a win from a unanimous decision.
