“Very Angry” Cyril Gane Says “The Time Was Not Too Long” To Train for Jon Jones Fight at UFC 285

UFC 285 main event was all about two dangerous fighters facing each other for the heavyweight title. While Jon Jones is a proven performer, Ciryl Gane leveled up his game to earn a shot at the title. A win over Jon Jones would have not only gotten him a belt, but he would have also gathered a lot of confidence after beating the MMA icon. Things, however, didn’t turn out how Gane would have liked them to. The Frenchman couldn’t even take the fight to the first interval as Jones submitted him in the first round. This left Cyril Gane very angry with himself.

Ciryl Gane expressed his disappointment in the post-fight interview with the media. He was visibly upset and mentioned that he and his team had put in a lot of effort preparing for the fight, but unfortunately it didn’t reflect in the fight. He also mentioned how this made him angry with himself more than anything else.
Ciryl Gane points out reasons for loss
Talking to the media after the fight, Ciryl Gane appeared upset but tried to hide his disappointment with a smile. A reporter asked him what was going through his head at the moment to which Gane replied, “disappointed of course but the biggest feeling is that very angry about myself, very angry because, yes we accepted this fight was not on short notice but the time was not too long but man we worked a lot and we spent a lot of time with him my sparring partners am very angry about myself because I spent a lot of time with my partner with my coaches, my families and don’t know how it couldn’t reflect during the fight so really angry.

The media and the fans alike considered Gane the fastest striker in the heavyweight division going into the fight. Fans expected him to put up a solid fight against Jon Jones. The returning fighter, however, had other plans. Nevertheless, the French UFC star could attain solace from the fact that the fight made him wealthier.

Ciryl Gane richer despite loss at UFC 285
Despite the loss, Gane has a silver lining in the clouds. He will go home richer by a reported 1232 K. Gane got $500k for showing up and another $700 k as a potential bonus. Gane also received $32k in sponsorships. While the loss will hurt, the winnings may work as a balm to soothe the dejected French heavyweight’s wounds.
