Volcanoes are often some of the most dangerous zones, a threat to all lifeforms, although some volcanoes aren’t as dangerous, others are. Joe Rogan once talked about the dangers of these natural structures and made an unusual claim about CO2 emissions which was shut down by Shane Gillis.

In a resurfaced clip from a past episode of the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, Joe Rogan decided to drop a fact on his guests: Shane Gillis, Ari Shaffir, and Mark Normand. He claimed that their recent volcanic eruption in Iceland produced more carbon dioxide emissions than how much human beings have produced since the inception of the species and technology.

“You know that volcano that just erupted? There was more CO2 released from that one volcano erupting than everything human beings have ever done,” said Joe Rogan. However, Shane Gillis appeared skeptical about that piece of information. He asked Joe Rogan, “Really? Where did you find that?”

This led to Shane Gillis taking a swipe at Rogan. “Reuters is on you a**,” said the 36-year-old comedian. But what really is the difference between the CO2 emissions of human beings and volcanoes? Let’s check that out.

Human beings release 60 times more CO2 than volcanoes

According to a report from Climate.gov, the activities undertaken by humans produce 60 times more CO2 than volcanoes. The activities mostly include the burning of coal and other kinds of fossil fuels, deforestation, and various other strategies of changes in the landscape, which have emitted almost 40 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide, as per data collected in 2015.

On the other hand, when it comes to volcanoes, they release carbon dioxide into the environment during eruptions and through underground magma. These Co2 emissions are released through rocks soils, and even hot springs. All in all, Joe Rogan forgot to check his facts this time, given that it was a huge claim for him to downsize the effect humans have on the environment.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, slip-ups can happen even to the best. As such, Joe Rogan will need to be mindful whenever he presents some facts to his guests. Since he is the host of the biggest podcast in the world and has signed a new Spotify deal, it may not be a good look for the 56-year-old.
