The pot keeps getting warmer as the date slowly approaches when UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev takes on Pound-for-pound men’s champion, Alexander Volkanovski. However, Makhachev’s coach and former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov wants the stage to be perfectly set. So, nobody gets to raise a finger when his protégé lifts the coveted Men’s P4P title. In order for that to happen, ‘The Eagle’ wants to show the whole MMA world that they’re ready. And wants MMA fans to forget Makhachev’s disappointment in the past.

Khabib wants to re-write history with Islam Makhachev

UFC Veteran Chael Sonnen believes that Nurmagomedov will do anything it takes for Islam Makhachev to become the double-division champion at UFC 284. According to ‘The American Gangster’, ‘Diamond’ Dustin Poirier is teed up to face Iranian-American fighter, Beneil Dariush. But this might all be part of the retired UFC champions’ master plan.

Sonnen said “Here we’ve got Volk (anovski) versus Islam, coming up…”

“the only one who has been publicly worried, that perhaps that match wouldn’t come to fruition, is Khabib” 

“He’s assuring us ‘My guy (Makhachev) will be there.’”

‘The people’s champ’ revealed “and Khabib attempted to get Benny Dariush versus Poirier put on that same card.”

But, ‘The American Gangster’ believes Dariush and Poirier are being pushed by Nurmagomedov so that Volkanovski cannot back away from the fight.

Through this confident move, Coach Khabib wants to establish that Islam Makhachev wouldn’t back off from this fight. As fans and UFC boss Dana White still remember, he backed away from an important fight in the past.

As The Russian fighter missed UFC Vegas 14 against former champion Rafael dos Anjos due to an injury.

Sonnen added, “This is them and khabib … openly telegraphing we take fights on a short notice.”

“khabib wanted Benny and Poirier present and prepared to step into the main event so that Islam was, in fact, guaranteed a competition”

And hopefully, when Makhachev ascends the P4P throne; further Dariush will be one step behind. Sonnen concluded that Khabib’s intention is to proclaim his students’ dominion over the UFC.
