Deiveson Figueredo undoubtedly has one of the coolest nicknames in the UFC, ‘Deus de Guerra’, which translates to ‘God of War’. ‘Deus’ means ‘God’, ‘de’ translates to ‘of’, and ‘Guerra’ means ‘War’ in his native Portuguese. The former UFC flyweight champion’s nickname shares a striking resemblance to and is possibly an homage or reference to a popular video game character.

‘God of War’ is also a successful video game franchise, including the 2018 Game of the Year, God of War. The series saw its last entry in the form of God of War: Ragnarok which features the titular character of Kratos, the fictional Greek god of war, who sports a red streak across his head and face.

Figueredo too, has a red streak across his head, like Kratos. And all of these similarities have led many to speculate that Figueredo’s nickname is a nod towards Kratos. The former champion certainly has the body of a Greek god and fights with the same ferocity as the fictional Greek god.

The #2 ranked flyweight will have the opportunity to live up to his moniker once again as he moves up a weight class and takes on a new challenge after his turbulent recent run at flyweight, which even brought him to tears recently.

Figueiredo moves up to bantamweight after Moreno loss

Figueredo has had a turbulent time in the flyweight division recently with his four fights against Brandon Moreno. Their first fight at UFC 256 in 2020 was a draw and saw the Brazilian keep his title. The ex-UFC champ lost the second fight next year at UFC 263 but managed to win their third bout in 2022 via unanimous decision. His last outing at 125 saw him lose in his fourth bout to Moreno in January this year via a doctor stoppage.

Along with this, Figueredo has had a very difficult time cutting weight to 125 lbs for flyweight. The pain of cutting weight even made him cry right after making weight for his second fight against Moreno in 2021. The Brazilian has therefore decided to move up to the 135 lbs bantamweight division and face #8 ranked Rob Font in his first fight on December 2 at UFC Fight Night Austin. Now, its time for the Brazilian to shine at UFC 300!
