The UFC strawweight women’s division has some of the best talents in MMA. One of the biggest names that come to mind when talking about the UFC women’s strawweight division is Tabatha Ricci, also known as  ‘Baby Shark’. The Brazilian fighter is currently sitting at the #10 spot in the weight class and is all set to fight Lupita Godinez at UFC 295.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the  28-year-old UFC fighter is a young talent who has been cooking up storms in the world of MMA. Tabatha Ricci started training at a very early age. She started training in Judo at the age of 6. Then, she took up Muay Thai at the age of 15. Then, at the age of 18, Ricci started training in boxing and had her first professional bout as well. As she turned 18, Ricci started training in other martial arts. She won her first few bouts and then moved to Japan to compete there.

Later on, Ricci came to California and started training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She is still affiliated with Paragon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and that is her go-to gym. Her former MMA gym was called MMA Kings. Other than that, she was also affiliated with Knuckleheadz Boxing and Black House. When Ricci was training in Judo, she was under the tutelage of the renowned and highly acclaimed Michihiro Omigawa. Then, when she started training in BJJ, her coach was Ricardo Miller. She currently holds black belts in both combat styles.

Tabatha Ricci, also commonly referred to as ‘Baby Shark’, is currently on a 4-fight win streak and is looking to turn that into 5. The impact that she has had on the UFC women’s strawweight division is massive. So let’s take a look at her UFC debut, her UFC record, and more.

Tabatha Ricci’s UFC debut, wins, losses, and record

Ricci made her UFC debut in 2021, making her one of the young bloods in the division. She actually came in as a replacement for Maryna Moroz and took on Manon Fiorot on just 4 days of notice. She was part of the UFC Fight Night: Rozenstruik vs. Sakai fight card, which was held on June 5, 2021. While she did showcase her skills to the best she could, Ricci lost the bout via TKO in the second round of the fight.

Then, Ricci returned to the UFC strawweight division in a fight in the division against Maria Oliveira on the UFC Fight Night: Costa vs. Vettori fight card, held on 23 October, 2021. This time, Ricci turned her luck around and secured a unanimous decision victory. After her initial loss to Fiorot, Ricci fought 4 bouts out of the strawweight division and didn’t lose a single one.

Today, Tabatha Ricci’s professional MMA record stands at 9-1-0, with the only blemish on her otherwise clean record coming from the loss against Fiorot. Now, Ricci is prepping to fight Lupita Godinez. With a win at UFC 295, Ricci could establish herself as a future title contender and climb up the rankings.
