Conor McGregor is an iconic star in the UFC. Fans can’t wait for his return to the Octagon as the fighter recently teased coming back to The Ultimate Fighter show. After ‘Mystic Mac’s first appearance back in 2015, the UFC-based show saw massive success. McGregor was paired with UFC Hall of Famer, Urijah Faber for the season. Fans of MMA and general audiences alike loved the show as it was hilarious and tense at times. Therefore, the two created a great atmosphere for a proper television show. With The Irishman set to return to the show after a long break from the Octagon, fans can only expect good things because the show truly brings out the playful nature of the former dual champion. But until then, here’s more about McGregor’s previous time on TUF.

What season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ was Conor McGregor on?

He made his TUF appearance back in 2015. This was after ‘Mystic Mac’ conquered the featherweight title against Chad Mendes and became an instant sensation. The Irishman was already famous among crowds. However, the belt helped him silence the critics. Furthermore, ‘The Notorious’ signed as a coach for season 22 of The Ultimate Fighter show, opposite bantamweight, contender Urijah Faber.

Both the fighters worked well as coaches and brought their unique personalities to the mixture. This season catapulted the ratings of the show. Obviously, McGregor’s global recognition brought a lot of attention to the show. However, fans stayed to unveil the interesting drama between the contrasting personalities. The bantamweight contender was more reserved and calm in comparison to the Dubliner, who is always the loudest in the room.

This stark personality difference between the two also tested their abilities as a coach. However, Team Faber took the win in the end, as Artem Lobov failed his team and lost to Ryan Hall in the finale. This lead to McGregor’s head hanging low, despite the effort from him and his boys throughout the tournament.

Was Urijah Faber offered to fight McGregor?

The UFC-based show saw more than a fair share of fans, wanting the respective coaches of Team Faber and Team McGregor to face off. However, despite the weight class difference between contemporary fighter, McGregor, Faber claimed he was offered a fight against the Irish champion. On Nov 24, 2017, in a fan interaction in China, the Hall of Famer shared “Actually, a lot of people don’t know that I was offered a fight with Conor McGregor – the same fight that Nate Diaz got,” as per ‘MMA Junkie’.

And I was going to go up two weight classes and fight him on three weeks’ notice. Dana said he was going to give that fight to me, and Conor wanted Nate – and you saw what happened there…”

“I like Conor a lot, but as you know he’s a good fight for anybody these days. It would’ve been nice to have had that fight even though it would’ve been up two weight classes and on short notice.”

Faber had an impressive professional career as an MMA fighter, with a WEC featherweight championship to his record. Also earned his spot in the UFC Hall of Fame but, never claimed a title victory in the UFC, despite several attempts in the bantamweight division.

Did Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber develop an unlikely bromance?

Even though the two were on opposite ends for TUF, McGregor and Faber developed a beautiful respect for each other because each saw how hard the other worked at their craft, and also their contribution to MMA.

Faber reflected after the season ended, “Yeah, I like Conor. Conor is a good guy. We had some good times in Vegas. Not that he can’t get on your nerves, but I enjoy his mindset. He’s a special guy.”

As reported by ‘TalkSport’, McGregor said “It’s already friendly stuff, to be honest,” “Urijah is harmless. He’s a harmless little man, he amuses me. He’s like an annoying little brother, only he’s close to 50 years of age.”

Therefore, the two have mutual respect despite their tussles.
