Why Does UFC FIghter Chan Sung Jung Aka ‘The Korean Zombie’ Refuse to Blink During a Bout?

Mixed martial arts is not an easy sport to dive into and it is one of the most demanding ones too. It requires immense physical strength, fitness, and combat mastery of multiple martial arts. But strangely enough, the upcoming featherweight title challenger, The Korean Zombie aka Chan Sung Jung (17-6-0) believes mastery of your eyes and blinking is equally important.

The Korean Zombie never blinks during a fight, Is this a fight strategy?

The 35-year-old mixed martial artist believes, getting a hold of your eyes can help you during the fight. He had also shared his reasons for never blinking during in-ring competition. Back in 2019, the Korean fighter was invited on a TV show, where he divulged his reasons behind never allowing his eyes to blink in a fight.

He said, ” Before a fight, I always tell myself not to blink and it became a habit.” He continued,” When you see it coming, and get hit, you don’t faint. When you get punched out of the blue you do. You faint, if you don’t see it coming, that’s when people faint.”

How effective is the non-blinking strategy of Chan?

Out of his 6 losses on the record, Chan Sung Jung has only been knocked out three times, while in other instances he lost via decision. It is unsure how well this technique would work in a fight, as no other fighter on the roster has ever reported following the same.

He went on to explain that it helps him better acclimatize to attacks, which would definitely help him be vigilant of his nemesis’ movements. However, he cannot always keep his eyes in complete control outside of the octagon, as in each training camp, he has to retrain his eyes.

His next bout will see him up head-to-head against ‘The Great’ Alexander Volkanovski, which will serve as his second title fight with the promotion.
