There is a list of similarities between the Czech Jiri Prochazka and his American counterpart Jamahal Hill. Both fighters beat Glover Texeira to win the UFC light heavyweight title, and both had to relinquish their titles due to injuries. Furthermore, both were on the receiving end of Alex Pereira knocking them out. It’s uncanny how similar their journeys have been, and even more surprising that both top contenders haven’t faced each other yet. With both fighters next to each other on the rankings, it’s only fitting that they fight next. Well, it looks like fans will be getting exactly this, with Prochazka confirming rumors of his fight against Hill through an Instagram post.

The UFC announced the matchup between the two light heavyweights in the post-fight show of the recently concluded UFC Macau card. Doubling down on the announcement, ‘BJP’ uploaded a comic book-style poster of him meditating with the title reading ‘Prochazka vs. Hill’. The caption of the post read, “It’s not just another fight, it’s a Fight, it’s the joy of being alive to express yourself Let’s go get it. Thank you.” The bout will take place on the January 18th, UFC 311 card.

Another post uploaded by the media outlet ‘FREAK’ on Instagram, in collaboration with Jiri Prochazka confirmed the bout, with ‘BJP’ telling them, “It’s the fight I wanted, definitely. This is a fight that has been brewing for some time, and I’m very happy for this opportunity. At this point, it’s probably the most logical move.”. It seems like the stage is all set for the light heavyweight showdown between the #2 (Jiri Prochazka) and #3 (Jamahal Hill) contenders. Both fighters had a taste of light heavyweight gold, so we can expect both fighters to bring their A-game into this fight, as the winner may get a chance to face the Brazilian champion Alex Pereira.
While it looks like both fighters are busy in their preparation for each other, and the eventually the light heavyweight champion, there’s another fighter who expressed an interest in fighting one of the contenders. It was none other than Jon Jones who teased a move back to light heavyweight in search of fun fights. But who is Jones interested in at light heavyweight?

Jon Jones namedropped Jamahal Hill as a possible opponent after Stipe Miocic
Jon Jones hinted at retiring after UFC 309 but as the fight came closer, he did a 180 and changed his tune. In fact, in a conversation with MMA journalist Aaron Bronsteter prior to UFC 309, Jones said the following, “After this fight, I can see myself entertaining super fights only.” Jon Jones (possible in a bid to avoid the Tom Aspinall conversation) spoke of a possible move down to light heavyweight in the quest for fun fights. One of the names he dropped was former light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill.
Although, we can give Jones a lot of grief for not facing Aspinall, one can’t blame him for wanting legacy/money fights at this stage in his career, given everything he’s accomplished. Those legacy fights would entail names like the aforementioned Ja͏m͏aha͏l ͏H͏i͏ll͏ ͏an͏d another top heavyweight in Derrick Lewis – “I’ve just been like, ‘Not having this belt to try to protect but just fighting guys that I stylistically want to fight against.’ Just random fights, you know? Like Jamahal Hill. Me and him meet up at 220 and see what happens,” he said, adding, “I’m at an interesting weight where I can fight light heavyweight and heavyweight.”
