Chael Sonnen is one of the most coveted names in the entire UFC. The now-retired UFC Light Heavyweight and Middleweight is often regarded as one of the best trash talkers in the entire sport of MMA. But recently, Sonnen went honest and presented his opinion about former UFC Bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey. ‘The American Gangster’ blatantly opinionated that, to him, Ronda Rousey was never the greatest female fighter in the world.

Sonnen has always been known for his often controversial statements. Although, this time, he himself stated that he was giving his honest opinion without being a “jerk“.

Chael Sonnen contradicted the EPSYs regarding Ronda Rousey

Sonnen appeared in a YouTube video posted on a channel named ‘PTL Vegas’ where he gave his views on Rousey, stating, “And she’s a friend of mine and I’m not looking to be a jerk. But there was never a day of her life that Ronda Rousey was the best fighter in the world.”

However, this statement from Sonnen contradicted the 2015 decision of the ESPY; to crown Rousey the ‘Best Fighter’ of the year. But, ‘The ‘American Gangster’ also had his facts to prove his point.

Addressing the UFC, Sonnen stated, “They just didn’t know the division back then, yet they start with somebody.” He also presented his facts to support his statement, saying, “She was the champion of the UFC, she never stepped foot in the Octagon”.

Sonnen also stated, “They made her champion at a press conference. I’m not banking on her”.

Sonnen had debunked Rousey as the greatest female fighter previously as well

Sonnen had always been vocal about his opinions. His views about Ronda Rousey were no exception to it. Sonnen uploaded a video about Ronda Rousey on his YouTube channel, 4 years ago. In it, he talked about the various aspects of why he didn’t consider Rousey the greatest female fighter of any time.

Sonnen was always of the opinion that Rousey had received her championship due to the UFC’s decision. ‘The American Gangster’ also felt that Rousey capitalized on an anomalous female division of the UFC; while things were very new and out of proper order.

But, once the female division started gaining its proper structure and legit fighters started to achieve the rankings that they deserved, Rousey fell short of defending her championship. Many also deride Rousey due to her lack of fighting spirit and giving up the UFC just after two losses.
