‘You Cowards!’- Aljamain Sterling Reacts to Eddie Alvarez’s Disqualification at ONE Championship

The referee disqualified former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez in his recent fight in the ONE Championship promotion against Iuri Lapicus. Alvarez’s fight was stopped after he landed a barrage of illegal shots on Lapicus in the opening round. Following the incident, UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling has taken to Twitter to comment on the same.
“Wait, wait, wait, WAIT! He’s clearly acting here! I would know! Where’s his “clown” emoji’s at you cowards??? Show yourself! #WhatAboutMe? Guys I’m clearly kinda sorta kidding #ONEChampionship,” ‘Funkmaster’ wrote on Twitter.
Needless to mention, Sterling has had his share of controversies regarding disqualification recently.

‘The Underground King’ landed an early takedown on Lapicus and engaged in some ground and pound. However, those shots were behind the ears. Hence, the referee brought an end to his contest and Alvarez was handed a disqualification loss. The former UFC lightweight champion was visibly heartbroken due to the call.

Sterling recently became the UFC bantamweight champion at UFC 259 after his opponent Petr Yan landed an illegal knee. ‘Funkmaster‘ was a grounded opponent as ‘No Mercy‘ landed the shot and the former could not continue further. Sterling faced some stern criticism from the fans for that.
Many suggested Sterling was acting and made the most out of the situation to claim the belt at UFC 259, but he was visibly hurt. Lapicus had the same sort of fate, and that prompted Sterling to react.

Does Aljamain Sterling have a point to react to Eddie Alvarez’s loss?
Sterling received some stern criticism for his reactions in the aftermath of his win at UFC 259. The suggestions that he milked the injury were a bit out of the blue. So, one can understand why reacted so promptly to the recent incident.
Disqualifications are an unfortunate event in MMA, as fighters prepare for a fight will all their might. It’s taxing on their mind and body. So, everyone wants to win fair and square in this sport, but they receive some undue criticism when things don’t match fans’ expectations. So, one can understand the reasons behind Sterling’s reaction.
