Two legendary athletes of their time, Mark Coleman and Ronnie Coleman don’t need any introduction. Both these legendary athletes dominated their respective sports when they were active. Not only did they break numerous records and established their cult status, but also inspired the next generation.

But while both professionals were active around the same time, do they also share a bond that goes beyond their same last names?

Both ‘Coleman’ super-athletes also had their own share of problems. In addition, they put their bodies to the breaking point and further overcame several adversities. Therefore, earning accolades and respect along the way.

Who are Mark Coleman and 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman?

Mark Coleman is a retired MMA fighter who competed in multiple promotions. Notably, ‘The Hammer’ was also a professional and amateur wrestler before transitioning to MMA. Significantly, the American fighter won a silver medal at the 1991 World Wrestling Championships and ranked 7th in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Afterward, the American fighter made his UFC debut in 1996 and subsequently became the first UFC heavyweight champion at UFC 12.

Ronnie Coleman is an American retired professional bodybuilder. Known as ‘The King’, he won the coveted Mr. Olympia title for eight consecutive years. The streak started in 1998 and continued till 2005. Therefore, he is often termed as the GOAT of bodybuilding.

Notably, the 58-year-old bodybuilder is also known for his extremely heavy workout regime and is lauded as the strongest bodybuilder. However, putting his body through this regime had an irreversible impact, as he had to go through 13 painful surgeries.

Is Mark Coleman related to Ronnie Coleman?

All things considered, the two stellar personalities don’t share any blood relations, either close or distant. The only connection between the two is their common last name.

Interestingly, while ‘The Hammer’ was born in Fremont, Ohio, and ‘The King’ in Monroe, Louisiana; the duo share the same birth year, 1964.

Mark Coleman’s appearances in the UFC

The 16-10 record holder made 12 appearances in the promotion. These 12 appearances came in two stretches. Significantly, the first spell included his historic run from his UFC debut to the first UFC heavyweight champion.

While the 57-year-old fighter started his UFC career with 6 continuous wins, he could not defend his heavyweight title against Maurice Smith at UFC 14. Also, ‘The Godfather of Ground & Pound’ went 0-3 after his UFC 12 championship bout and thereby switched to Pride Fighting Championships in 1999.

Significantly, the UFC Hall of Famer returned to Octagon action in 2009 in a bout against Shogun Rua at UFC 93. However, the UFC star lost the fight via TKO.

After a layoff of more than 3-years, the fighter hung his MMA gloves at theR age of 48.
