UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has decided to move up to light heavyweight. Adesanya is planning to grab the second belt by defeating Jan Blachowicz next year around March. However, the light heavyweight kingpin believes that Adesanya will get a taste of the change in power once he fights in the heavier weight class.

Having won the title by upsetting Dominick Reyes at UFC 253, Blachowicz has been basking in the win since last month. He also awaits the birth of his son which is due in December. As far as return to the Octagon is concerned, Blachowicz plans to return to the Octagon by March next year.

For his first title defense, Blachowicz has a number of options in front of him.

“I would like to be back in the Octagon by March. That’s gonna be the perfect time for me to be back in the Octagon,” Blachowicz said while talking to SCMP MMA.

“We’ve got Thiago and Glover. They’re are gonna fight and maybe that’s gonna be my next opponent. Or all the time talk about Jon Jones, you know. But I don’t believe that he be back to 205. And then we’ve got Adesanya. He said something that he would like to try in 205,” he added.

Jan Blachowicz doesn’t fancy the chances of Israel Adesanya at light heavyweight

In his last few fights, Israel Adesanya has picked apart his opponents and has done what he needed to do for the win. He was hoping to fight Jared Cannonier if the latter got past Robert Whittaker at UFC 254. However, with Whittaker grabbing a unanimous decision win, a move up to light heavyweight is one that excites Adesanya and his camp.

Despite being the crafty striker that he is, Adesanya will need the necessary power in his hands to knockout a proper light heavyweight. Blachowicz believes will feel the power of a new weight class if he ever fights Jon Jones.

I think Jones. He is bigger, you know. Adesanya is not 205. He’s gonna feel the 205 power when he moves to 205. So, I think Jones beats him. I would put my money on Jones,” Blachowicz said.

As the situation stands currently, Dana White and Adesanya have confirmed that Israel will move up to light heavyweight next year. Consequently, Blachowicz will have the chance to shut down everyone who has doubted him so far by handing Adesanya his first defeat.
