Israel Adesanya has a lot of options going on for him. Stylebender defended his title against Paulo Costa, finishing the Brazilian at UFC 243. Adesanya was the main event as UFC kicked off its second visit to Fight Island.
While Izzy may be enjoying some well-earned time off, the MMA community is buzzing as to what will be next for the Nigerian born star.

The co-main event of UFC 254 featured a middleweight contender fight. Former champ Robert Whittaker claimed a unanimous decision win over Jared Cannonier. Post-fight, UFC president Dana White said that he was interested in booking the rematch between Adesanya vs Whittaker.
Adesanya on the other hand might have plans of his own. Ever since Jan Blachowicz became the UFC light heavyweight champion, there have been rumors flying around. Even Adesanya’s coach would come out to say that they are interested in a move up to light heavyweight.
Former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, spoke to Ariel Helwani of ESPN to discuss the potential fight.
“It’s not a good look for Izzy,” DC told Ariel, “We love Izzy over here right, a lot of times we fall over Israel Adesanya”
DC continued, “If he goes up and fights Blachowicz, when he has kind of refused to fight Jones, at this point because he said he wants to take time to build into the weight class, to clear out his division, not a good look.”
Daniel Cormier went on to say, “That tells me you don’t want to fight the guy”
Israel Adesanya and his long-standing feud with Jon Jones
“If he [Adesanya] goes up to 205 and gets ahold of that belt,” Cormier continued to explain, “There is no way around him fighting Jon Jones. It’s going to happen because the moment Jones says I want to go to 205, the UFC should feel almost obligated to give him a title shot right even though I don’t like the guy.”

Jones and Adesanya have long been going at it on Twitter. However, a fight has never yet materialized between the two.
“If he [Jones] says I’m back at 205, immediately any contenders, any number one fights, they all go out the window and he steps right into the title shot”
Daniel Cormier went on to conclude, “If Adesanya gets a hold of that belt, trust you me, Jones will be back to fight him.”

It’s not the question of if Jon Jones and Israel Adesanya will face each other, but rather when. With both superstars at the peaks of their career, the UFC would do well to book this ‘mega-fight’.
