Georges St-Pierre is an inspiration for budding MMA athletes around the globe. But who is the Canadian MMA legend’s inspiration for picking up the gloves? ‘GSP’ himself let the fight fanatics know of it when he came across an Austrian-American celebrity, Arnold Schwarzenegger, after one of his UFC fights.
The MMA legend had just edged a fight against Johny Hendricks at UFC 167. The bout was brutal for both fighters but mostly for the champion, as he took perhaps the most damage in a fight after the Matt Serra upset. That said, ‘GSP’ won a split decision and kept his title.

Afterward, before going to get the stitches for all the punishment he suffered in the bout, he had a fan moment when he saw Arnold Schwarzenegger backstage. The greatest MMA fighter, probably to grace the planet, ran towards his hero and fell to his knees and was saying, “NO, no, no, my idol. Oh, my god!”

Initially, the welterweight champion said he had to go to see a doctor. Thus, the Terminator star said, “Take care of yourself, okay? Thank you for the great entertainment.” However, after interacting with Schwarzenegger, ‘Rush‘ couldn’t help but slow down and have a moment with his ‘childhood hero’ and ‘inspiration’.

St-Pierre took full advantage of the time and asked for his UFC title and when received, he put it on the Hollywood star’s shoulder. ‘Arnie’ wanted GSP to hold the title, but the champion wanted ‘The Running Man’ to hold it as he said, “No, no, no you are my inspiration, you’re the one.”
The famous moment was captured on camera. The promotion put it on their Facebook page as well.
Georges St-Pierre and Arnold Schwarzenegger met again at UFC 171
UFC 167 was the last time ‘Rush’ fought in the welterweight division for the UFC. The Hendricks bout and the strength of schedule overall, as a champion, had the Canadian sports icon take a break from Octagon.
