The first Japanese to reach a grand slam semifinals in 81 years . For the first round he beat W Odesnik 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. For the 2nd round he defeated P. Andujar of Spain 6-4,6-1, after which the Spaniard retired. For the 3rd round he defeated 23rd seed , ArgentanianL.Mayer 6-4,6-2,6-3. For the 4th round he had a close win against Canadian M Raonic, seeded five. The match went on for full 5 sets finally ending witha score of 4-6,7-6,6-7,7-5,6-4. In the quarters he narrowly managed to winagainst  3rdseeded S Wawrinka, a potential winner. The match had  full 5 sets finishing with the following set scores3-6,7-5, 7-6 , 6-7, 6-4. He will be facing Djokovic in the semi’s.

The 14th seeded Croatian , has showed a great consistency throughout the tournament . For the first round , he beat M. Bhagdatis from Cyprus 6-3, 3-1 in which the latter retired after the 4th game of the 2nd set. For the 2nd round he beat I Marchenko from Ukraine 7-6, 6-2, 6-4. For the 3rd , he beat 18th seed Russian K. Anderson 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Facing G Simon in the 4th round, he barely won as the match went on for full 5 sets, 5-7, 7-6,6-4, 3-6,6-3. For the 5th round he beat another US Open favourite , 6th seed Tomas Berdych 6-2, 6-4,7-6.

The world no. 1 is maintaining his repute, defeating each and everyone of his contenders with ease and steadily moving forward. He defeated Argentinian D Schwartzman in the 1stround 6-1, 6-2, 6-4. In the 2nd round he beat France’s P Mathieu ruthlessly 6-1, 6-3, 6-0. In the 3rd round he crushed S Querrey of USA 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 advancing to the 4th in which he defeated German P Kohlschreiber , seeded 22 with the match ending at 6-1, 7-5, 6-4. In the quarters he had little difficulty against Great Britain’s favourite Andy Murray and defeated him with the set scores of 7-6,6-7,6-2,6-4.

Roger Federer

A legend without which Tennis cant be described, his performance throughout can’t be described his best but is still respectable. In the 1stround he beat Australian M Matosevic 6-3, 6-4,7-6. For the 2nd round, he defeated another Australian S. Groth in a consistent 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Advancing tothe 3rd   round, he faced Spanish M Granollers , he dropped the first set but then recovered in the remaining 3 , thus the final score being, 4-6, 6-1,6-1,6-1. In the 4thround, he beat another Spanish palyer,R Bautista with a score of 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. In the quarters, it was a close competition between him and 20th seed, France’s G Monfils as he dropped the first two sets, but then recovered in the remaining 3 and ultimately came out on top with the set scores of4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-2
