The equestrian race has all that one can think of. It has excitement, drama, and happening that one could never think of in his wildest dreams. But, a similar situation happened to an equestrian apprentice during a race at Tauranga on Saturday. Her horse who was supposed to run, tried to buck its rider off.

Tayla Mitchell was participating in the apprentice jockeys’ premiership in New Zealand. She was riding on Yellow Jersey trained by Daniel Miller. This was her last race in this season and wishing to finish in style. But, her horse had some different thoughts.

Equestrian apprentices show a formidable control

The 19-year-old apprentice rode Yellow Jersey to the finals and was the favorite to win. She had a chance to become the 65th winner of the campaign. But as the race started just a hundred meters from the actual sixteen-hundred-meter race, Yellow Jersey started to buck Tayla. The commentator who was there to describe the live event said, “This favorite, Yellow Jersey, is putting on a rodeo performance! He’s got his head down between his legs, and boy that rider is doing well, Tayla Mitchell“.

The horse who had his 13th start put his full effort into his rodeo performance to buck off the rider. But, Tayla exhibited outstanding horsemanship skills and stayed on the saddle. She held him in tight reins and eventually made the horse stop and canter back to the stand.  Yellow Jersey in its thirteen starts has two wins. One in the 1300m race and the other in the 1400m race. The New Zealand-born thoroughbred horse worth is NZD $36,285.

Another commentator praised the equestrian rider for her effort and said “Her balance is outstanding“. Her effort did give result at the end when the horse ceased to buck her and slowly stopped.

Tayla’s composure and control received praise when she was in a difficult situation. Speaking on the incident she said, “He jumped out well, I sat still on him and a couple of hundred meters after he got a bump from one of the horses“. After that, he slowed down and started to buck like a rodeo bronc. She further said, “When he started bucking I thought this is my last ride of the season – go out with a bang“. But, Yellow Jersey was not in the mood to race any further.

When stopped to buck, he looked up to see the field was clear. It started cantering along. So, Taylor pulled him before the post and took him back. People wonder if she thought of jumping. The apprentice said she never thought of jumping and was just waiting for him to stop. She was relieved that it didn’t hurt itself in the process. Tayla currently holds 5th position in the New Zealand jockeys’ premiership.
