“Flush Those Toxins”: 4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler Once Sent a Strong Message About Massages to Bodybuilding Enthusiasts

Back in 2018, Legendary bodybuilder Jay Cutler shared some great insights on why it’s important to take care of the body. The former Mr. Olympia revealed that to relax his body, he gets a massage twice or thrice a week. During his prime days, Cutler had a massive physique. To get that physique, he went through some intense training sessions.
Naturally, his body got extremely worked up and exhausted because of the intense training. So, to give his body a break, Cutler regularly let a masseuse help him relax. The massages not only helped his body relax but also helped him on stage in the bodybuilding competitions.

Jay Cutler sheds light on the importance of massages
In 2018, Mr. Fourth Quarter sat down to answer questions from the viewers of his YouTube channel JayCutlerTV. While answering the question about how to take care of the body, Cutler first explained why one needs to do it. He revealed that he spends hours taking care of his body. Explaining the need for it he shared a person spends hours breaking down the body in the gym. And as one gets bigger, their flexibility becomes limited.

Further explaining the process, he said, “You remember the muscle fibers tear and when that tearing happens that creates the fullness. The muscles of the fibers form over and that’s how you get the swelled muscles. So you have to get and then you have to flush those toxins. You have to continue to keep the body pliable.”

He further added that one needs to stretch to have mobility. Cutler reasoned that a lack of mobility would result in a lack of growth. It’ll also lead to difficulty in maintaining balance or posing on the stage. Moreover, the nutrients and blood flow would get restricted. Hence, one needs to let the body relax and recover. But did these messages actually work for Cutler?
How did the massages help Mr. Fourth Quarter?

Jay Cutler revealed that he came to know about the importance of massages very early on in his career. He started getting those massages in 1996 in Massachusetts. However, when he moved to California, he met the neuromuscular therapist Steve Murphy. He met Murphy upon the recommendation of his friend Chris Cormier.
He revealed that after meeting Murphy he was able to open up, i.e. he got more flexible. This led to him being able to strike better poses in his competitions. Earlier, he wasn’t able to put his arms at the back and was very tight near his shoulders. However, Murphy helped him in “stretching that fascia and opening up that tissue.” He further added that after working with Murphy, his career skyrocketed. Cutler went as far as giving Murphy 20% credit for his success.
