Lindsey Vonn Once Shared Her Words of Wisdom on Body Positivity While Talking About Her Book “Strong Is the New Beautiful”

Lindsey Vonn is an iconic alpine skier who has sustained many injuries throughout her career. Her body has survived horrific crashes, broken bones, and torn ligaments. And yet, the self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie only slowed down once her knees couldn’t support her down the slope anymore.

While promoting her book, Vonn appeared on the Stephen Colbert Show back in 2016. In the interview, Lindsey explained the title of her book and what exactly she means by strength. She said, “The image in society is changing. Being athletic and being confident in yourself is what makes someone beautiful. You don’t have to be model-thin to be beautiful.”

Her powerful message provoked a strong and supportive reaction from the audience. The book isn’t about becoming as thin as a supermodel so that we can feel beautiful. It’s about how Vonn herself learned to love her body, and so should we. It outlines healthy ways to lose weight and maintain a higher level of health.

It’s not about dieting. Vonn said it herself, “I hate the word diet.” Just make sure to drink your hot chocolate in the morning, not at night.

The book is in part an autobiography and in part a manual on healthy living. Vonn wants women to focus on being strong, not on being thin. She highlights how gaining a strong body is as much a mental endeavor as it is a physical one.

As she bagged gold in the Vancouver Olympics in 2010, she was shot into the mainstream, now having to face the unrealistic beauty standards of Hollywood. Soon, the unhealthy kind of ‘skinny’ plastered everywhere got under Vonn’s skin and she had to learn to love her body.
