Mikaela Shiffrin, the alpine skiing prodigy, reigns over her competitors. Ahead of the 2023 Skiing World Cup, scheduled on October 28, the 28-year-old is making occasional media appearances. The star athlete of the US Alpine Ski roster is aiming for her fifth overall Globe victory . This time, Austria will witness the giant slalom weekend with Shiffrin atop the podium. Besides 5 back-to-back overall finishes, her 88th FIS Alpine Ski World Cup victory made history. Having recently surpassed the Swedish skier Ingemar Senmark, the GOAT established her position as a champion.

Ahead of the 14th season on the World Cup circuit, the Olympian is all set to embark on another journey with 2,206 WC points. Last Thursday, the prodigal skier unveiled some new-season strategies, drawing more attention to her already triumphant career.

Mikaela Shiffrin plans her goals beforehand

In an exclusive interview Vail Daily, the star athlete enjoyed some media attention along with her boyfriend. When asked about her new-season plans ahead of the World Cup, she flinched and denied having any. She clearly said, “Actually, no.” When it comes to such a big event, the Olympian hitting the slopes with nothing in mind is unlikely. However, she opened up about the areas that needed improvement.

She said, “I would like to maybe, ideally, improve my downhill performance a little bit more but that doesn’t really mean winning. It’s just improving the skills that I think have fundamental, but can get better,” Even though her statement reflects modesty, the world knows what Shiffrin has up her sleeves. She also added another thing that broke the stagnancy for her.

In the last season, with GS and Slalom, Mikaela experienced something she had never felt before; consistency. Along similar lines, the absence of burn outs pushed her to the wins. She asserted, “So that was just exciting to go into each race feeling pretty excited to actually race. So hopefully, a big goal is to try and keep that mentality going.” However, her season didn’t start off quite well.

Shiffrin pens her feelings

Lena Duerr of Germany contested against Mikaela Shiffrin and did the impossible. On January 29, 2023, she won the match against the GOAT to win her maiden alpine skiing World Cup. However, Lena failed to clinch a medal in the 2022 Summer Olympics in Beijing, but she covered up her loss by winning the Spindleruv Mlyn Slalom World Cup. The 28-year-old was severely impacted by this when she was already struggling with her mental health.

Additionally, her low self-esteem also struck right at that point.  “That season is like the worst thing that happened to me”, she told the School of Greatness. She further asserted her disappointment saying, “This was the last race series before World Championships. This season I was on a low, just drained. I lost the race by 0.07 of a second Lena Duerr, a competitor.”
