However, before him, Carl Lewis encapsulated the minds of most people during the track and field events. He is a nine-time Olympic gold medalist who also holds the record of winning four consecutive Olympic gold medals in the same event; the long jump.

Recently, the legendary athlete took his time to break down the current 100-meter women’s world champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah’s performance. The incredible sprinter is on top of her game after her terrific performances in the 2021 athletics season. Dominating almost all the competitions that she took part in, Lewis analyzes her running pattern and discusses her sheer greatness.

Carl Lewis talks about Elaine Thompson-Herah

Winning two gold medals in the 100-meters competition, Lewis dominated the athletics world from 1983 to 1996. His gold medal victories in the World Athletics Championships were a treat to watch. Recently, he talked about how Thompson-Herah’s smooth running style helped her win many gold medals. Particularly, Lewis broke down one race she competed in with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

“What Elaine is doing is just running relaxed. Her race looks like one continuous race. So the thing is that we are trying to stay away from breaking the race down to a dry phase, no it is only one continuous motion.”

“It’s just like if you’re a car or something that is moving, you don’t wanna have stops. That’s why in automobiles now, race cars, they are using automatic transmission because it’s better than shifting,” said Lewis.

After winning the 2016 Rio Olympics 100 and 200-meters competitions, she yet again dominated the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Coming out on the top, time and time again, in different athletic competitions, she is expected to have another impressive year. The 2022 athletics season will once again see her as the face of women’s sprinting competitions.
