The changing scenarios in Chicago Cubs and Carlos Correa’s potential future have put their deal in doubt. As the Cubs are not ready for a long-term commitment, which Carlos Correa is seeking, the team might have to look somewhere else for their shortstop needs.

With Corey Seager out of the free agency, Carlos Correa and Trevor Story are the two top choices left. If the Cubs cannot settle for a long-term deal with Carlos, they aren’t out of options.

The MLB lockout has paused all the conversations between teams and players in free agency. Hence, the Cubs will have to wait till it’s over to convince their priority free agents. However, a new report had revealed, the Cubs are not interested in committing a long-term deal worth millions with Carlos Correa. The 27-year-old is seeking a $300 million-plus, long-term offer.

Hence, the Cubs might not land upon a deal with Correa, although they still need a shortstop. That’s when Trevor Story comes into the picture. The controversies around free agency have aligned the narratives of the two top shortstops. Notably, Cubs can sign Trevor Story for a short-term deal, for a budget less than for Carlos.

So, Cubs will have to keep their doors open for both Carlos and Trevor in order to meet their shortstop needs for the 2022 season.
