Former New York Yankees shortstop and current businessman, Alex Rodriguez aka A-Rod, has purchased a luxury flat in Central Park West. But it was not an easy job for the former Yankees’ All-Star. After initially being denied by the building’s board, A-Rod nearly begged the board for this swanky Manhattan co-op.
If reports are to be believed, then the former Yankees’ shortstop’s initial offer was not accepted by the building’s board. And after that, A-Rod made a big fuss about it and begged the board to accept his offer. As per New York Post, the former shortstop dropped $9.9 million for the co-op in the legendary Beresford Building at 211 Central Park West after begging the board for approval.

“He almost didn’t get accepted and begged the board to accept him. He had a tantrum, and they said yes,” said an insider to the New York Post.
Why did A-Rod beg for this $9.9 million co-op?
The New York Post’s report also suggests that the board did not want a celebrity to live in their building. This is why the building’s board denied selling the co-op to A-Rod in the first place. However, the 46-year-old former shortstop ended up purchasing the three-bedroom, five-and-a-half-bathroom unit from real state developer Jorden Vogel. The board approved A-Rod’s offer, days after his board interview.

According to records, Rodriguez bought the second-floor unit from Jordan Vogel for a whopping $9.9 million, who purchased the unit for $6.75 million in 2018.

Rodriguez insisted on the board’s approval for this particular unit, despite knowing that the flat is not private at all.
“It is shocking that he would want a place on the second floor. It is not private at all. I think it’s a massive mistake,” said a source to the New York Post.

The Beresford co-op building at Central Park West is one of the most prestigious addresses in the entire city. Residents will have to enter the flat through a grand foyer complete with an art gallery. After entering the lavish property, there is a 500-square-foot living room, which features views of Central Park.
The property also features a primary suite spanning around 900 square feet. The primary suite has two full bathrooms, a dressing room, and a separate sitting room.
