“I Thought I Was Gonna Die”: US Skier Reveals She Battled Food Poisoning in Quest for Gold Medal at Beijing Winter Olympics 2022

The 30km women’s cross-country skiing saw Jessie Diggins win the silver medal under tough circumstances at the Beijing Winter Olympics. After winning the bronze medal, in the individual sprint event, she went up and took home the silver. Hence, Diggins spoke about her experience in Beijing, which was not perfect in any way whatsoever. Despite having some health issues at the start, she labored down the finish line in an epic performance.
The sensational Diggins took home a sensational victory as she showed why she is one of the best skiers in the world. With incredible determination and finesse, she crossed the finish line to claim home the silver medal.

A determined Olympian at the Beijing Winter Olympics
Norway’s Therese Johaug won the race as Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen took home the bronze medal. But, Diggins’ performance was one for the ages. She found it hard to finish the race as she suffered from food poisoning in the race. Thus, she spoke about the matter after the race in an epic interview with NBC after her race. Diggins was delighted with the support she received from the stands.

“It’s really emotional. That was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my whole life. Especially, because I had food poisoning 30 hours ago which is why I thought I was gonna die in the finish line. But, it was so special to see my family and my fiance right afterwards, on video. My legs were cramping the whole last 17k. I don’t know how I made it to the finish. But, it was amazing. We had so much cheering out there,” said Diggins.

Having food poisoning did not hamper her Olympic Games. Thus, it was a perfect performance from the athlete. In the meantime, this is not the first time an athlete complained about food-related problems in Beijing.

Although we do not know how Diggins had food poisoning, there was one athlete who complained about the meals she received in Beijing. During quarantine, Russia’s biathlon competitor, Valeria Vasnetsova, shared an Instagram story on the quality of food received in Beijing while she was under quarantine. It caused many people to take notice. She could not believe the dishes she received.

Ending on a positive note, Diggins became determined to win an Olympic medal, and she did exactly that. All these athletes must be respected for the effort they put in and is refreshing to see them perform at the highest level.
