A disappointing Winter Olympics for Mikaela Shiffrin has caused her to receive widespread criticism. Despite previously winning two gold medals, Shiffrin failed to leave her mark in the five events at Beijing Winter Olympics. With most people questioning her attitude, it is just that any athlete would have the same issue. Many people though, offered her support, including her friend Iga Swiatek.

She is the 2022 French Open champion and the duo share a great bond. Surprisingly, they haven’t met each other but created a bond of friendship in recent years.

Iga Swiatek offers support to Mikaela Shiffrin

In her first two events, that is the giant slalom and slalom competitions, she failed to finish the race as she slid off the gates. As a result, she herself could not believe what happened. After that, the Super-G and downhill competitions saw her finishing 9th and 18th, respectively. Moreover, she failed to finish the combined competitions which saw her losing all the singles events. But, many famous athletes and players have offered their support for Shiffrin, helping her to recover from the setback. Tennis player Swiatek created a short video to improve her confidence.

“I know this must be a tough moment for you but remember how much of an inspiration you are to all of us. Not only as an athlete but as a person. These are not just empty words, you know that and I know that. I really hope you’re going to keep going and be as strong as you are because you’re doing great,” Swiatek.

Shiffrin loves to play tennis, and she adds the sport to her training routines to improve agility and quickness. Loving the sport of tennis, she plays it regularly as a result of both passion and maintaining her fit body.

A true bond

The duo are close friends since 2021. Both these talented athletes appeared on Instagram live to discuss traveling and how they cope with the mental side of things. This was an important part of starting their bond as they are the best of friends right now. Shiffrin is a huge follower of tennis and her idol is the great Roger Federer.

Thus, with her dear friend helping her to recover from the setbacks, she has one more mixed event to compete, in for a chance to win an Olympic medal in Beijing. Forgetting her first five events won’t be easy but hopefully, she can regain her confidence back.
