American bobsledder, Elana Meyers Taylor, competed in the women’s exclusive event and took home the silver medal in remarkable fashion.

Taking part in her fourth Olympics, her victory was beyond special this time around. Post her win, she revealed that her son influenced her to fight hard and win the silver medal.

In a truly heartwarming moment, she posted a video of her son, Nico, playing with her medal. Moreover, she talked about wanting to do it for her son and she kept her word.

Elana Meyers Taylor is an icon

Just like Serena Williams and legendary sprinter, Allyson Felix, Elana is breaking stereotypes of competing at the highest level whilst being a mother. Significantly, it is an inspiration for many athletes, as her determination to win is truly admirable. In her Instagram video of her son, she captioned the post, “The moment I?ve dreamed of ??”, happily sitting and watching Nico, who is playing with her medal. An inspiring story like no other, Taylor dedicated this victory to her son and was proud of him as well.

“I’m going to tell him that this mama fought like she’s never fought before to go after her dream, to just do everything she could to bring this medal home for him,” said Taylor.

In addition, she is auctioning her Team USA jacket, helping her raise money for the research of Down syndrome. Her husband, Nic Taylor, who is a bobsledder himself, and Taylor are glad they could donate their memorabilia for research.

After her victory, she intends to retire from the sport and spend more time with her family. After 15 years in the sport, at 37 now, she wishes to call it quits on what has been an illustrious career.
