After nearly two decades of dominance, Shaun White has ended his snowboarding career. One of the best snowboarders in the world, Shaun, had his final say on proceedings today. While he looked to win his fourth Olympic medal, things were not easy for White. He landed some of the best tricks in his career but could not come up big in the final run.

He was visibly disappointed after his final run as he teared up on the ice. As he received resounding applause from the crowd, Shaun knew this was indeed the end.

Shaun White gets emotional

The sensational White has ended his career after a dream run in the Olympics. He scored 72.00 in his first run, starting the proceeding with simple tricks and flips. In the second run, he raised his game up, scoring 85.00, hoping to at least get a bronze medal. In the final run of his career, White landed two perfect tricks but faltered at the end of the third one.

As he came crashing down, fans were shocked and could not believe that the greatest snowboarder they witnessed just performed the last run of his career.

Hirano wins the gold

On the business end, White’s biggest rival, Ayumu Hirano, won the gold medal with a sensational final run by scoring 96.00. Australia’s James Scotty led the competition until the second run, but Hirano proved why he is the best snowboarder in the world right now after this victory in Beijing.

From one legend to another, today White has retired, and Hirano has taken over the top spot. There were shades of White’s 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics run where White pulled off a stunning performance at the end of his final run. But fate said it wasn’t meant to be.
