The 22-year-old Canadian skier Frédérique Turgeon’s Paralympics is officially over, even before it started. Sadly, she crashed out in the downhill training session, leading to a leg injury. Hence, the skier will not further take part in the Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022. This comes as a huge blow for Team Canada, as she was a gold medal contender for her nation.

With the downhill competition racking up speeds up to 80-90 mph, injuries are common. Haven fallen victim to the same now, Turgeon will start her road to recovery after going back to Canada. It comes as a bitter blow, as she was performing well in recent times.

Suffering a leg injury during the downhill training session, Turgeon will have a recovery period of three to four months. She was set to compete in her second game and looked to win medals for her country. She is a three-time World Championships medalist and competes in the standing category. Now, in the wake of disappointment, she talked about her injury and the road to recovery ahead.

“This is the first time in my career that I’ve really been enjoying downhill, and I was going fast on a training run and just let things go. I always said this year [was] when I was really going to push myself was at the Games — I nailed that and so I can’t regret what happened. What actually hurts me right now is to leave my team behind,” said Turgeon.

She will now spend some time on the sidelines, hoping to recover from the nasty injury. Truly, it is a disappointing ending for a promising athlete who looked to win medals at the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympics.

Team Canada gutted

After her injury, Team Canada’s chef de mission, Josh Dueck, talked about the matter and how dispirited everyone was. Team Canada’s other 10 athletes will compete on March 4th at 9 p.m. ET. With her teammates coming into play, it must be sad for her to not compete as Dueck talked about the mood in the camp.

“We are so gutted for Frédérique to not be able to compete at the Games. Injury is an unfortunate part of sport, but it is particularly devastating when it happens right before the Paralympic Games. We wish Fred all the best for a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the slopes soon–there is definitely more from her to come!” said Dueck.

Team Canada would hope to put on a great performance for Turgeon and bring glory to their nation. To sum up, Turgeon will start her recovery period and look to kick-start her career soon.
