‘It’s a Miracle’- Ukrainian Paralympics Team Reacts on Reaching Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022 Despite Unfortunate Situation in the Country

The Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022 is about to start, there have been concerns. As the rising global tensions have changed the whole landscape of the sporting world, Ukraine finally arrived in Beijing. Moreover, the logistics involved to get out of the country are difficult. But, the athletes have arrived to compete at the Winter Paralympics.
Ukrainian Paralympic committee president Valeriy Sushkevych talked about the troubles the team faced to get out of the country. Despite all the troubles, they have fought all the adversities to leave their country and take part in Beijing.

Ukraine team reaches for the Beijing Winter Paralympics
With many people finding it hard to leave the country the Ukraine Paralympics team has safely landed in China. He talked about representing their country in Beijing, at the highest sporting level. With the ongoing European crisis, they made their way to China, amidst many difficulties and other problems. The president talked about the problems they faced to reach China in a press conference.
“More than four days and four nights we (took to) come here. It’s a miracle that we’re here… A part of our team was already abroad. A part of our team was in Ukraine. All the necessary equipment was in Ukraine… We had to unite all those parts. It is 25 years I am president of the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine. And never was it so difficult, so heavy to come to the Paralympic Games,” said Sushkevych.

Being in the Olympic Games is important for the country. Ukraine always sent out the best athletes in the world as the 2018 Paralympics, showcased their talents. They won 22 Paralympic medals, including seven gold medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics. With many skiers amongst their ranks, they have a solid team in China.

But, the mindset of these athletes will be something to wait and watch for. It is not easy to see one’s country going through a crisis like theirs. Winning an Olympic medal by any athlete would be a monumental achievement at this year’s Beijing Winter Paralympics.
