The Beijing Winter Paralympics 2022 is underway. Most recently, the US won their first gold medal at the Paralympics with Oksana Masters claiming her fifth career gold medal. Thanks to her, Team USA is up and running with their first gold medal at the Paralympics. Notably, she also appeared for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and won two gold medals there.

Thus, this is another feather in her cap, with the stunning performances showcased in the Paralympics. This could be the year that Team USA could lead the medals tally with the host of talent they have amongst their ranks. Nonetheless, Masters created a piece of history for herself.

Oksana Masters and her phenomenal timing

The sensational Oksana Masters completed the course with a time of 20:51.02, 15 seconds ahead of China’s Shan. She claimed her fifth Paralympic gold medal and 11th overall Paralympics medal in both the Summer and Winter Games.

The 32-YO took part in a women’s biathlon sitting sprint, which involves skiing and shooting. Hence, it turned out to be a great achievement for the athlete who continues to better her record and defy the odds.

Along with her and Shan, America’s Kendall Gretsch won the bronze medal at the Paralympics. She had earlier won a medal back at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics.

On the other hand, Masters will continue to race, seven more times in the upcoming races. Hence, her medals tally might increase soon. Apart from her personal achievements, she has made history by joining an illustrious group of athletes.

After winning the medal, she moved into third place U.S. women’s career Winter Paralympics medal with eight medals. Alpine skiers Sarah Will and Sarah Billmeier have won 13 Paralympic medals in their careers. Masters can pass these legends in the current Beijing Winter Paralympics.
