During an interview, Chris Bumstead revealed his preparation for the title. The icon has been the reigning champion of the Classic Physique category for 3 years. Since the champion has been preparing for this moment for a while, he talked about his hard and grainy look post-workout. However, the champion followed it up with a warning.

Chris Bumstead does not recommend his routine

Talking about his water retention method, Bumstead detailed what his routine looked like. The icon started his preparation with a method called water load. Here, he drank about 10-12 liters of water a day in order to regulate his body. This prompted his body to mostly expel water. However, this changed a few hours before the championship. About 16 hours prior to the contest, Bumstead would restrict his water intake.

Limiting the amount of water helped the bodybuilder drain the excess water from his body. This made his body dry and gave him a hard and grainy look. Although the number of hours would depend on various circumstances, this was the basic preparation he would follow.
