Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in the small village of Thal in Austria. Despite his father being the police chief, the family battled with poverty. However, Schwarzenegger worked hard and never gave up on his dream of becoming a bodybuilder. In 1968 Schwarzenegger came to America with little money. However, by 1975 he was a six-time, Mr. Olympia. While Arnold Schwarzenegger’s story has, and continues to inspire, millions of bodybuilders, the 75-year-old former champion shared something that inspired him.

Earlier, the seven-time Mr. Olympia uploaded a reel on Instagram. While the bodybuilding legend didn’t disclose where the footage was filmed, the video featured an Asian duo working out with makeshift weights.

No gym? No problem

In the video that Schwarzenegger uploaded, a boy is working out on a rowing machine while an older guy sitting on a scooter instructs him. However, surprisingly it seems the duo is working out in the middle of a field. The video then cuts to show other people working out at the same location. Further in the video, it shows the same guy, this time in a red t-shirt, busting out rep after rep of dumbbell rows.

The next frame shows the same guy doing bent-over barbell rows while another guy warms up behind him. The video also shows the guy doing other exercises like t-bar rows, lat pull-downs, and more. However, what’s astonishing is everyone who is working out is using makeshift backyard equipment. All the machines and weights are handmade.

While it’s unclear who made the equipment, people in the comments section guessed that they made it themselves. The weights shown in the video were made with iron rods and concrete. While commercial gyms have machines made of metal, these people constructed complex machines with wood, concrete, and bamboo. “I’m trying to inspire you with my daily email, but these lifters inspire the hell out of me,” Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote in the caption and urged fans to subscribe to his newsletter.

Arnold Schwarzenegger revolutionized bodybuilding and helped bring the sport to the mainstream. He has won numerous titles, including five Mr. Universe and seven Mr. Olympia titles. At 75, the former champion continues to work out and inspire others to lead healthy lives. However, the decline in the average fitness levels of Americans has worried him.

Hence, the bodybuilding legend has started a newsletter called The Pump Daily. In his newsletter, Schwarzenegger gives tips on workouts, diets, and lifestyle changes that will help the average working adult become fitter and healthier.
