Back in February 1980, Arnold Schwarzenegger, ahead of his UK release of hit-movie Commando, sat for a candid interview. From discussing films to talking about his experiences, The Terminator star had a lot to share. Talking about his life back in Austria, the rising star revealed how he used to shower his mother with gifts. However, proceeding with the chat, he paused to sniff the air.

As the smell feels familiar, he went back the memory lane. Remembering a hilarious incident that almost landed him in trouble, the Austrian Oak opened up about a rare incident that perfectly ticked the box of comedy of errors.

Arnold Schwarzenegger recalled the hilarious incident that involved his mother
On his mother’s instruction, Schwarzenegger made it a point to write ‘GIFT’ on everything that he would send back home. “I should write ‘GIFT’ on the package so she wouldn’t have to pay taxes on it,” recalled Arnie. Things went well until something unexpected happened. As Schwarzenegger tried to send Aurelia a pearl necklace, the gift was confiscated.

Obliging to her mother’s words, Arnold had put the words’ GIFTS’ on the box. But the sweet and innocent gesture from Schwarzenegger was not well received by the officials. Adding further, he revealed how the word ‘gift’ in German meant ‘poison.’

Thus, when the officials got hold of the package, they hilariously misunderstood it as poisonous. Schwarzenegger recalled that they were freaking out over there – “Arnold has sent his mother poison!“ It was only later that the confusion got cleared, and Aurelia got the gift. Perhaps from next time onwards, she allowed her son to send her presents without the words’ GIFT’ written on them.

For Arnold, his mother was his backbone. Thus, on the eve of her 100th birth anniversary, the bodybuilding legend could not hold back his emotions. Penning down a heartfelt note, the Hollywood legend got nostalgic.
Arnold paid a moving tribute to his late mother
Schwarzenegger was very close to his mother. Through thick and thin till her passing, the actor kept in touch with her. On 30th July 2022, he wrote a special message for his mother. Expressing his gratitude, he wrote, “She was the best mother you can imagine, and I’ll always love her. I can’t explain how much she meant to me, but she is the number one reason I won’t call myself self-made.”

Touching on her past life, the ex-California Governor revealed how she taught her the importance of patients.
