Earlier this year, Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s ex-wife, Maria Shriver, planned the expansion of her real estate. However, instead of purchasing a bigger place in a new locality, she decided to expand her current residence. To do so, she bought the property from her neighbor.

Ever since her divorce from Schwarzenegger in 2011, Maria has been living in her current residence. The property is located in Brentwood, a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles. It has eight bedrooms with seven bathrooms. She had bought the property at $12 million, back in the day. Now, over a decade later, she has expanded her mansion by purchasing the neighboring house at the same price.

Maria Shriver buys another mansion at $12 million

Shriver purchased the mid-century ranch-type abode next to her mansion in June 2022. The 4 bedroom 4 bathroom house is said to have been built in 1947. As per the records, the house was previously owned by the widow of Petersen Publishing Company’s former president.

The family had bought the house at $300,000 and owned it for nearly half a century. The new house stretches over half an acre and provides over 4000 square feet of living space. The house was never put on the market for sale. Hence, not many specifics of the deal have been revealed.

Shriver now owns over an acre of land on one of the most popular streets in Brentwood. The locality is home to many other celebrities, like Arianna Huffington and Dana Walden. It also housed the late American actress and comedian, Betty White. After her demise, her house was recently sold for $10.7 million.

Shriver-Schwarzenegger split

After 25 years of marriage, Maria Shriver filed for divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2011. Their marriage crumbled after Schwarzenegger’s affair from years ago, with the house help came to light. Schwarzenegger had developed an illicit relationship with former housekeeper Mildred Patricia Baena.

It wasn’t until a decade later when her son started resembling Schwarzenegger that the matter came to light. Soon after the news broke out, Shriver filed for a divorce. The divorce was finalized in 2021. As per the legal agreement, Shriver is entitled to half of Arnie’s earnings since their marriage. It also includes his pension money.

Arnold currently lives in Brentwood, a few blocks away from Maria Shriver’s mansion. The house currently occupied by Schwarzenegger is the one where the coupled lived during their marriage. However, Shriver moved out as soon as she filed for divorce. She moved into her Brentwood house six months later, after she remodeled the place.
