When it comes to bodybuilding, Flex Wheeler needs no introduction. He is a retired American IFBB professional bodybuilder. Although Wheeler has never been able to taste the glory of Mr. Olympia, he has won the Arnold Classic title four times. Arnold Schwarzenegger also called Wheeler one of the greatest bodybuilders he had ever seen. Even Ronnie Coleman has mentioned him as one of the greatest competitors he had by his side at Mr. Olympia.

The Menace Podcast invited Flex Wheeler back in August. He discussed his current state and how much pain he has been through. Wheeler was still in the hospital while he gave a total update on his health.

The current state of Flex Wheeler

Wheeler has been through a lot of surgeries and has experienced a lot of pain because of that. The bodybuilder who was once destined to be the best, now lies in a hospital bed.

“The pain from all that was crazy,” Wheeler said. “They had to keep me first from the pain, but then I got some sort of GI infection,” he continued. As if the pain from the surgery wasn’t enough, he also caught a gastrointestinal infection that worsened it.

“I started having diarrhea for like four days straight,” Wheeler said, and continued, “being that I’m a kidney transplant patient, being dehydrated for me is not safe.” This also triggered his kidney into becoming unstable. It was really a painful experience for Wheeler.

The fall of the bodybuilding legend

Arnold Schwarzenegger once referred to Flex Wheeler as the greatest bodybuilder he had ever seen. In 1999, Wheeler was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. From then on, Wheeler suffered several problems.

In 2019, he even had his right leg amputated after suffering kidney failure and blood clots. Then in 2021, he suffered from COVID-19, and right after that, he came to know he had acute kidney failure and also sustained serious damage to his lungs.
