Ronnie Coleman has seen massive ups and downs in his bodybuilding career. His first success at Mr. Olympia came in 1998 when he left the likes of Flex Wheeler and Kevin Levrone behind to clinch the title. Subsequently, he dominated the competition and won eight consecutive titles during the period 1998-2005.

However, excessive and rigid workout plans took a toll on his body. He went on to experience herniated disks, for which he underwent multiple surgeries. He once opened up about his surgeries and the lengthy recovery process.

Ronnie Coleman once talked about his 13-hours long surgery

During an interview, Coleman remembered one of the surgeries that took 13 hours and cost him half a million dollars. Talking about the same, he said“One [surgery] was $500,000. 13 hours of surgery. For every surgery, I try to take about six months off.”

Further, he added, “As soon as I’m able to get back, I try to get back, right away. I’m not even half as strong as I used to be.”

The multiple surgeries took a toll on Coleman’s body. Additionally, they exacerbated his injuries and, as a result, he lost most of his mobility. Coleman once also shared that he believed he might not be able to walk again.

Coleman shares his health update

Recently, the eight-time Mr. Olympia gave an update on his health. During an interview, he revealed“I’m working real hard on that. Right now, I’m going to Mexico every four months, getting these stem cell treatments and they are working out real good.”

Further, he also said that he hopes to be able to walk soon. Despite the surgeries, Coleman is continuing to train in the gym and rehab to maintain his fitness.

Coleman will also attend the 2022 Mr. Olympia, which will take place later this year. He will attend the event alongside compatriot and eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney. The 2022 edition of Mr. Olympia will be held from December 15-18 at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Resort & Casino.
