Bodybuilding fans consider Dorian Yates as one of the greatest Mr. Olympias in history. The Englishman won the coveted title six times consecutively. However, Yates was more than a prolific champion. The former Mr. Olympia revolutionized the sport, laying the foundation for the physique modern bodybuilders aspire to achieve. Experts credit Yates with starting the mass monster era, as he redefined how much muscle mass a bodybuilder could gain. Always focused on improving his physique, The Shadow recounted the worst part about becoming famous.

Earlier, Dorian Yates posted an old photo of himself with fellow bodybuilder Achim Albrecht. In the picture, Yates sat beside his fellow bodybuilder at a table, while both wore suits. However, instead of nostalgia, the resurfaced image reminded The Shadow of something he didn’t enjoy.

The bodybuilding legend wanted to be somewhere else

“Here’s a shot from 1994.” wrote the six-time Mr. Olympia in the caption. The photo Yates uploaded was from the 1994 Mr. Olympia press conference. The other bodybuilder in the image was Achim Albrecht, a German bodybuilder and personal trainer, who won the IFBB Mr. Universe title in 1990. In an interview with Escape Fitness, the English bodybuilder explained why he didn’t enjoy being in front of the camera.

“This was the Mr. Olympia press conference and in all honesty, I really didn’t enjoy this part,” said Dorian Yates. “I felt it was a bit pointless and it disrupted my prep schedule. I was so focussed on my goal and this was almost a distraction,” added the champion bodybuilder. However, he also wrote it was a formality that required fulfillment.

The original mass monster also mentioned how hard it was to find a suit that fit his massive frame. “Although back then it was rather difficult to get a suit made.” However, the former bodybuilding champion said, “nowadays I can pick one off the rack!”

Same problem, different Mr. Olympia

Dorian Yates wasn’t the only bodybuilder who faced problems finding suits that fit his massive frame. Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler also revealed how hard it was to find clothes that fit his insanely muscular frame. Although Cutler custom-made his suits, the specialist tailor struggled to compensate for the difference between Jay Cutler’s massive chest and lats, compared to his slim waist.

The former Mr. Olympia’s tailor, Gary Frazen, told Bodybuilding.com during the making of the Living Large documentary that Cutler’s physique “sort of defies the physics of what you can do with fabric.”
