Bodybuilding icon Dorian Yates, who is a six-time Mr. Olympia winner, once shared his opinion on how a certain scenario would have helped Frank Zane beat Arnold Schwarzenegger in the coveted Mr. Olympia competition.

Dorian Yates is considered one of the best professional bodybuilders of all time. He won all his six Mr. Olympia titles consecutively from 1992 to 1997. Fans remember him for his unique physique, thanks to a wide, thick back. He is also well-known for his high-intensity training.

Dorian Yates talks about the legendary Frank Zane!

Yates, in one of the episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2017, shared his thoughts about the importance of size in bodybuilding. He shares how some bodybuilders don’t win competitions like Mr. Olympia just because they were lacking in size, despite having great physiques. To prove his point, he gave the example of Frank Zane and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Yates said, “Frank Zane had a great physique. If he was the same size as Arnold, maybe he would have beat him.” He showed how size gives bodybuilders an advantage against those who have a great build but smaller size. Yates noted that size is a big scoring factor when it comes to professional bodybuilding and it helps a lot in winning competitions.

Yates shared that back in the heydays of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane, Zane could have beaten Schwarzenegger had he been bigger. Schwarzenegger was much bigger when compared to Frank Zane and hence, as per Yates, that helped him immensely in winning against Zane.

Yates purchased the Temple Gym back in 1987. He later created four additional Temple Gyms in different locations. The six-time Mr. Olympia winner also formed a company called Heavy Duty Inc. in 1994, which markets athletic apparel and books related to bodybuilding. He also runs his own company called Dorian Yates Ultimate Formulas, which sells protein and weight-gain supplements.
