Not many fans expected that a bodybuilder who participated in the Olympia would criticize Olympia 2022. However, this is exactly what happened when James Hollingshead gave his concerns in a 2023 video. It included his honest views about the space available for bodybuilders backstage.

Along with this, Hollingshead described the negative impact of the backstage arrangements on the ladies. The bodybuilding professional also revealed how another notable bodybuilder once shared the same concerns.

James Hollingshead’s frank views on Mr. Olympia 2022 

Telling about the backstage setup, Hollingshead said that “it wasn’t very big.” Continuing, he revealed how Jay Cutler also had a similar concern about the limited space and the setup.

Later, Hollingshead remarked, “I kind of felt sorry for the ladies who were tanning.” Further, he explained how these ladies had to walk around and search for light to see their tanned bodies.  Afterward, Hollingshead elaborated on the lighting. “It was dark, so dark. Adding, he spoke, “It was like..uh..being in a nightclub.” Further, he also told how difficult it was to fit all Olympians in The Little Gym area, as there were more than 20 Olympians, and how the women competing in the bikini division must’ve found it challenging to move around backstage.

Hollingshead recounted the huge crowd backstage, including various bodybuilders, media teams, cameramen, and people taking care of the audio backstage. It made it chaotic back there, making it necessary to establish more order. Later, Hollingshead clarified that the video’s objective was to raise awareness, and he had nothing against anyone involved in the show. Further, he spoke about the need for a re-evaluation of the route to get backstage and the temperature backstage.

Taking a surprising stance, Hollingshead refused to leave the Olympia 2022 stage. He reasoned that the stage was warm, and it was cold outside.

Sharing an Instagram post of the episode, Hollingshead humorously suggested the police wanted him, and that was the actual reason for his refusal to leave the stage. Considering the cold in December, one can understand Hollingshead’s perspective.
