The legendary bodybuilder recently opened up in an interview with Rob Lipsett. The interview aired on the latter’s official YouTube channel. Yates talked about the athletes who reach stagnant muscle growth tend to keep increasing their weight, but never give a thought to their approach. Yates stated that to come out of the vicious cycle, one has to change the way they approach their training as a whole and not just the weights. He advised aspiring bodybuilders to hit the reset mode and start with a basic approach.

One of the most important pieces of advice that Yates recommended to those who are not experiencing muscle growth was to take a week off and let their bodies recover. “First of all, take a week off, don’t do any training for a week, and let the body recover,” he said. Yates believed that recovery was just as important as training, and it would help people to introspect on what exact things need improvement.

After taking a week off, Yates recommended the athletes return to an abbreviated routine. “Come back to an abbreviated routine and you will respond, trust me, if you are doing it properly,“ he added. This approach allows the body to experience effective growth as the process of breaking muscle fibers and recovery would be balanced. While the 61-year-old gave an impactful solution for the risk-free training routine, he was also judged by many veteran bodybuilders for his training approach.

When Yates’s approach was scrutinized by another bodybuilding expert
While the humongous structure of the 6x Mr. Olympia has given him the status of Mass Monster, Yates had also gone through innumerable injuries during his illustrious career. The veteran bodybuilding coach Drew Baye recently called his training methods the primary reason for his numerous injuries.

In a recent video, Baye could be heard saying that Yates could have easily avoided many injuries by focusing more on proper form and not just weight. Baye said, “If he had just slowed down and performed these exercises with a much stricter form. He never would have had all those injuries.”
