“Guys Tend To Overeat”: 8 Years After Retirement, Jay Cutler Disclosed the Most Dangerous Part of Bodybuilding That Can Cause Severe Health Issues

Jay Cutler, the legendary bodybuilding champion has a different yet interesting take on the regular standards of diet followed as an athlete. Hard to deny, the 4x Mr. Olympia brings an insightful outlook to the habits and lifestyle surrounding the sport. A person of clarity and scientific temperament, he followed a diet that has proven to be helpful to this date.
Cutler began working out at the age of 18. He practiced a disciplined routine both in his workout and diet and would never shuffle the agenda unless it was unavoidable. Perhaps it is his discipline and consistency that led to a roaring victory in 2006 despite the insurmountable challenges he faced with the then-reigning Mr. Olympia, Ronnie Coleman. In a 2020 interview, Cutler shared his views on the dangerous side of the diet bodybuilders practice.

Jay Cutler opened up about eating huge amounts of protein
Building a huge physique is a prerequisite to standing a chance in the field of bodybuilding. In that pursuit, bodybuilders resort to heavy consumption of protein, which Cutler quoted as “dangerous.” He said, “I think guys tend to overeat. I think that’s the most dangerous thing.” Also, he referred to enormous protein intake stating, “because that amount of protein.”

Furthermore, he conveyed that considering the constant training and recovery process, one would begin to wear out. Cutler also reminded that they get older and continue to beat down their bodies as they get into their 30s and 40s when they should actually be retiring.

4X Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler Once Revealed How Bodybuilding Was His Only Escape From Reality
He also pointed out that a 40-year-old guy isn’t necessarily going to come back and win the title against guys in their 30s. Furthermore, he said, everyone has a certain genetic makeup, which means they are destined for body issues like hip issues, heart problems, cancers, etc.

Cutler also shared about his dietary habits. “I ate very very well,” he said. He had worked with his nutrition since he was 18 and said, “I never was a big protein eater. I was more of a carbohydrate eater.” Moreover, he suggested that his eating habits had a lot to do with his fitness and condition in his late forties. “I can continue to train with zero joint pain,” he added.

The Massachusetts macho said that his body feels great, and he still eats a very clean diet. Also, he dismissed the idea of indulging in extreme habits to win the title. At 25, one would be prepared to risk their lives to go any length for the title even if they knew they have the risk of dying at 40. However, he said that mentality changes and one would want to live longer. By saying that he suggested following a sustainable lifestyle.
