Chris Bumstead is the undefeated king of bodybuilding. With four consecutive Mr. Olympia Classic Physique trophies, the American bodybuilder successfully inscribed his name in the sport’s history. However, with accomplishments, comes compulsory comparisons with other reputed names like the heroic Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Bumstead’s body measurements on stage are almost similar to that of Schwarzenegger at his peak. This mandated the necessary comparison. On March 30, 2023, CBum appeared in a podcast session with Full Send Podcast, where he disclosed his views on a make-believe contest with the Austrian Oak. Who would win if the two bodybuilders went head-to-head?

The interviewer confirmed that the two legends, although separated by both time and bodybuilding standards, had almost the same body stats in their prime. Even though the comparisons are absolute madness, the interviewer asked, “How do you feel about those comparisons?” Just like any modern bodybuilder would feel, CBum had one word to define the feeling, “Honored!” However, comparing Bumstead’s 6’1″ height and 240lbs on-stage weight to Arnie, fitness enthusiast Bradley Martyn put CBum right on the spot.
When asked if he could defeat the legend in the 70s, the four-time Mr. Olympia employed his nuanced understanding on the matter, “If I went back looking how I look, I’d be the leanest person they’ve ever seen. So, they wouldn’t even know what the f**k is going on. So, I don’t even know if they would even want that. So, maybe he would win because of that.”
But if Arnold were to compete in CBum’s prime, with his 2022 Mr. Olympia physique, the scenes would have been reversed. “If he were to come today and compete against me last year at the Olympia, I think I would beat him because he’s not in shape enough,” added CBum. In fact, to back his remark, Bumstead cited a valid reason.
As he saw it, the sport is progressing every day and the competition and standards are on the rise with it. In fact, the bodybuilder did a witty comparison of his sport with that of the NBA, saying back in the ’90s, the player used to drink beer in half-time, but with the changing approaches, they are now taking energy shots to dwell longer in the field.
Moreover, to avoid any future controversies, the Classic Physique winner employed a smart play of words. He implied that Schwarzenegger is an absolute legend and he can never defeat him.

CBum paid reverence to the legend
While answering about his relationship with the Austrian Oak, Bumstead stated they’ve met only once and had a quick chat. In addition, CBum also confessed, “I don’t think I would ever replace him as the GOAT in bodybuilding.” Lastly, Bumstead thought there shouldn’t be any comparison, as what the 7-times Mr. Olympia did was legendary.
