The legendary bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger, got some digital criticism years back, when he began his political career. One of his defamatory comments made in 2005, about the nurses fired back, when they decided to get back to him through a one-minute TV ad. They portrayed the self-proclaimed as a tool of the monied interests.

The nurses were very resented by his comment. Moreover, they decided to give answer in the same way. They decided to go national with the TV ad as Arnold was doing the same for his “reform” initiatives.

Arnold’s comments provoked nurses

Arnold’s comment about nurses being “special interests” who are mad at him because, “I kick their bu**.” After Arnold’s comment, nurses decided to give him an answer in his style. In the TV ad, the veteran nurses opposed both Arnold’s comment and his thoughts on the nurse-patient staffing ratio.

“The ad goes to the heart of the matter, which is that the governor is trying to turn the state Capitol into a fraternity for corporate interests,” said the Nurses Union leader, Rose Ann DeMoro.

The nurses weren’t happy with the Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

The nurses tried to brief about the importance of the healthcare system and nurses. One of the nurses, Melita Dionosio-Temple said, “The one thing the public should know, is that one day you will be in that bed and realize that because of the number of patients one nurse has to take care of, you may be calling, and there’s nobody there.” 

DeMoro even said, “I like to think of it as ‘Conan vs. the Nurses’.” However, the ad was also a bitter answer to the hospital industry. As they expressed their own “Thank You,” and supported Arnold’s decision. Arnold proposed to hold the lowering of the patient-staff ratio that had been approved by the former Governor, Grey Davis.

That was the beginning of Arnold’s political career. Above all, he really hurt the sentiments of nurses with that defamatory comment. After that nurses expressed their anger back to Arnold and the system.

As it was claimed by the nurses that Arnold was looking to raise money for his “reform” initiatives. The nurses were confident in their initiative.
