“I’m Not Comfortable “: 71-Year-Old Female Bodybuilder Disapproves Online Male Behavior

Texas native bodybuilder Renee Landers is proving that age is just a number. Starting after 60, Lander is presently in her 70s and impressively hitting the gym showing her muscular body. Breaking societal norms, the super-granny is changing the dynamics of bodybuilding. Besides treating her fans with workout updates, Renee communicates by asking for opinions from her fans too, just as she did recently.

Notably, the fitness enthusiast shared a video on her Instagram, asking for suggestions from her followers. Her concern is that Landers was recently addressed in a manner of which she disapproved. Now the bodybuilder is curious to know about the views of her fans on the same.

As per her new social media update, Renee recently had someone call her “sweetie” or “honey” which made her agitated. Thus, she thought about asking today’s women what they felt while being addressed likewise. The 71-year-old bodybuilder added a video on her Instagram with the caption, “Ladies, what’s your opinion? Is it OK for total strangers to address you as sweetie or honey or dear? I consider those terms of endearment. This is not some militant women’s rights comment… It’s just a common sense comment…”

“Hey my people”, Renee began her video and then continued, “Happy Monday. I’m doing a quick poll. How many women like being called ‘sweety’, or ‘dear’, or ‘honey’ by total strange man on Instagram?” She then went on to share her story, “I just want to know. I was approached by someone. And I think I’m not comfortable with that. If I’m not your sweetie, or your honey, or your deer. Okay, but ladies I want to hear from you.”

Though she didn’t feel it right to be called as such, Renee shared how it’s just a common opinion, and she is ready to get others’ points of view. But did her fans agree with her?

Fans reacted to Landers’ doubts

Evidently, some fans thought it to be usual to get addressed like that. As one wrote, “It doesn’t bother me at all. I prefer to believe that people have the best of intentions, and it’s just a term of endearment until it’s not, then I may set a hard boundary.” Another continued the thread and commented, “I love any sweet words and believe in best intentions.”

Whereas, one shared her discomfort, “Nope don’t like it, especially on social media!” Another supported Renee, and penned, “Hard fast NO!!”

Landers indeed stands for all the women out there, not only for inspiring them in bodybuilding but to make them aware of what demeanor to expect from others. This bodybuilder-grandma is indeed paving the path for many.
