In 2021, before the release of the She-Hulk TV series, Lou Ferrigno made a statement. Marvel fans were eager to witness the female version of the Hulk. The Hulk, who is known to be a giant green man who can blow up stuff in no time, now has a female counterpart. But did it go as planned by the director of the show? Lou Ferrigno liked the idea, but he was frustrated about one particular thing.

Lou Ferrigno hails from Brooklyn, New York. Since his childhood, he admired Hulk because he is an example of power. Ferrigno suffered from 80–85% hearing loss. Looking at superheroes and wanting to be like them was his vent for his problems. Growing up with an abusive father and bullies at school was tough on Ferrigno.

The concern of Lou Ferrigno

Lou Ferrigno is the Incredible Hulk himself. He also has a terrific career in bodybuilding with two consecutive IFBB Mr. Universe titles. The moment he set foot in Hollywood, he got the role of Hulk. Ferrigno finally got the chance to play his favorite comic book superhero.

“I think it’s a good idea, but I think we have to get retrained from seeing too much special effects because the more authentic, organic the character can be, the more believable,” Ferrigno said

“So we have to see what happens because it may work for ‘Star Wars’ — it may work for different films, but you know, when you have too much CGI, it gets confusing,” Ferrigno said. He played the role of Hulk, when CGI didn’t existed. A man who is 6’5″ tall and with a perfect body, Ferrigno was the perfect guy to play the role of Hulk. He didn’t need any CGI to prove his strength.

It’s not like Ferrigno is against the idea of having a female counterpart to Hulk. He just wants the show to look more authentic. Everything done with CGI will just look dull to the audience. He also took the audience’s eyes with the Hulk’s way of talking which we all know is only possible because of Ferrigno.

Ferrigno’s change of fate

Despite being a famous actor. During his bodybuilding career, Ferrigno always aimed for big. He has two IFBB Mr. Universe titles, although his aim was Mr. Olympia. With all the hard work, Ferrigno did expect his prize, but fate had different plans for him.

In 1975, Ferrigno lost to the infamous Arnold Schwarzenegger. After this, Ferrigno never showed up for the title. Even Schwarzenegger once said that if Ferrigno had continued working out and participated in the next Olympia, he would have won. The arch-rivals became workout friends after retirement and are still in touch with each other.
