Not your typical bodybuilding injury

Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay and his coach Dennis James sat for an exclusive interview with Muscular Development Magazine. During the interview, the coach-bodybuilder duo answered many training-related questions. “Did you have shoulder surgery a couple of years ago?” the interviewer asked Elssbiay. While Elssbiay said no, the reigning champion also clarified he had suffered from a shoulder-related issue in 2019.

Recollecting on the painful experience, he initially couldn’t understand what had happened. “One day I go to the gym and I can’t lift… And after that, they find that something stuck in my neck. It make the blood not going to my shoulder,” explained Ramy to the interviewer.

According to Elssbiay, before the day he couldn’t lift weights in the gym, he had shoulder pain for six months. However, the current Mr. Olympia said he didn’t require surgery to fix his shoulder. “They fixed it, and back to work,” said the reigning champion.

Elssbiay didn’t compete in the 2019 Mr. Olympia contest. However, neither Dennis nor Elssbiay clarified if it was because of the shoulder injury. In 2020, Ramy won his first-ever Mr. Olympia title.

Big Ramy gave fans a massive surprise

With less than a month remaining for Mr. Olympia 2022, Elssbiay is training with Dennis James during the last phase of his prep. While most bodybuilders tease their fans with updates on social media to build anticipation before the show, Elssbiay surprised them. At the end of October, seven weeks from Mr. Olympia, Ramy came out for a guest posing session at the Dennis James Classic.

Ramy surprised everyone when he stripped down on stage. The current champ began hitting poses, including the lat spread, back-double biceps, and side chest. In fact, Elssbiay even showed off quads. However, it seemed like an impromptu decision since Elssbiay had underwear on instead of bodybuilding trunks and didn’t apply any tan.
